The title, cover art and tracklist for Pop Smoke’s posthumous album and people have questions.
The album is titled “Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon” and to learn what songs are made it to the print fans are supposed to download an app and literally point their phone cameras to the sky where individual track names are revealed. So far fans gathered from that riddle that there will be nine songs featuring 50 Cent, Roddy Ricch, Lil Baby, DaBaby, Quavo, Karol G, Swae Lee and Tyga.
However, this is not the most questionable part of this promo campaign.
Boss of Pop Smoke’s label Steven Victor shared that Pop Smoke always wanted his album cover made by Louise Voitton designer Virgil Abloh and announced that his dream came true:
Abloh explained later that the inspiration came from his conversation with Pop Smoke:
The last conversation I had with @realpopsmoke was about what we were gonna do in the future. This album cover was one of like 5 things we talked about,” said Virgil. “He mentioned his story felt like the metaphor of a rose & thorns growing from the concrete of his hood in Canarsie, Brooklyn. In your memory, I just finished it yesterday.
While his intentions are honourable, the execution made many fans question the quality of this work. 50 Cent, who is an executive producer on the project is the one who is not happy and urges a legendary designer to try again. In his tweet Fif even mentioned that he did not support this design but clearly nobody listen to him:
Hey Virgil we need new album art, they ain’t going for this bullshit. Love ya work let’s get to it. 🤔Steven i told you this shit was 😡eww let’s get it right!
