This week, four Eminem songs received new certifications: two in New Zealand and two in the United Kingdom.
New Zealand awards
Two Eminem singles from two different eras have reached new certification levels in the southern hemisphere. First, universally loved “Shake That” with Nate Dogg has become 5x Platinum. Originally released in 2005 on Em’s first compilation album, Curtain Call: The Hits, it was then lifted as the second and final single for the project in 2006. In 2007, it got a Grammy nomination as Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The song had to compete with another Em’s hit, Akon’s “Smack That”, and lost to “My Love” by Justin Timberlake featuring T.I. Ironically, the winner did not show significant longevity. It becomes apparent when you compare their certification levels in the same countries.

Another Eminem song that got a new certificate from Recorded Music NZ is “Bagpipes From Baghdad”. It came out on Relapse:Refill in 2009. While Relapse signified the end of the hiatus that Curtain Call: The Hits marked the beginning of, Refill was an early sign that Relapse 2 would never arrive. However, nobody thought about that in December 2009, and “Bagpipes From Baghdad” was just a delicious stab at Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey. It was playful, full of lyrical acrobatics, but with a sharp sting underneath the laugh. The song has never had a single status, so the units counted for certification are coming from streams, The song has now accumulated enough units for Gold certification.
The United Kingdom certificates
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, two more Em’s songs received recognition from the British Phonographic Industry. Again, the songs come from very different eras, but both are collaborations. The BPI awarded 3x Platinum to “Godzilla” feat. Juice WRLD. The single earned its first Platinum certification in October 2020, months after its release. However, after the initial spike, “Godzilla” seems to be pacing very confidently, adding a new level every three years.
Another newly certified track is Em’s collab with T.I. “That’s all she wrote”. Famously, Eminem decided to change his first verse on the track after the leak revealed his original verse. The song has five verses, which is rare in modern rap releases, and it has now earned its second certification. Despite being released as a single for No Mercy in January 2011, the song only began receiving certifications this year. First, a Platinum in New Zealand, and now – Silver in the UK.
