Kid Rock’s collaboration with Eminem, announced the other week, sparked a heated debate over whether Marshall stepped over the “line in the sand” he drew in his 2017 BET Cypher. Kid Rock says this is why he wanted them to work together.
In a recent interview with Fox’s “My View with Lara Trump”, he largely repeated the same message from the announcement: it is important to talk across the political divide.
We said it years ago. We said, “Man, let’s not let politics divide us”. And we never did. So when I asked him to be part of this, and the stuff that he’s writing, he totally got it. He knew how important it was for two little foul-mouthed white rappers from Detroit maybe to set an example for the rest of the country. Like, hey, it’s okay to differ politically and still be friends. I keep saying it, but thinking differently and having the freedom to do so is what makes this country great. I’m so thankful he’s on the record. He’s been a tremendous friend for almost 40 years.
It remains to be seen whether this friendly collaboration can change anything, or at least bridge the gap between people with different views that has grown so wide recently. And not without a reason.
