Did Kanye, a hip hop visionary, just repeat something Eminem did 20 years ago? See for yourself.
In November 2021, Kanye played several listening parties for his “Donda” instead of releasing the album. People were fascinated by the unusual event and praised Ye for a bold move of bringing his childhood experience on stage quite literally – in the shape of his childhood home.
Some comparisons with Eminem and “The Marshall Mathers LP” that also played on working through childhood traumas and overcoming them were made immediately. But some of the similarities slipped under the audience’s radar. And now one of the thoughtful fans made an obvious connection and brought up The 2001 Anger Management tour where Em did exactly was Kanye did recently: built his childhood house on stage, put on a mask, and delivered his message.

The similarity is uncanny. But let’s be clear, this is not the first time younger artists have taken a page from Marshall’s book. His MTV VMA performance with an army of doppelgängers inspired at least two recent live appearances.
Tyler the Creator made his dancers, dressed as him, run to the stage through the Grammys venue in 2020, just like Em did in 2000.
And then, The Weekend used a similar approach to styling his dancers at his Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2021.
