Asked to choose between disses from 50 Cent and Eminem, The Game bent the rules to pick “Not Rich, Still Lyin”.
It happened on the recent Sound Check episode, where the host presented The Game with the choice and asked him to pick the one with the most impressive bars. Perhaps choosing between two scathing disses from the same camp was not a game he wanted to play.
One was 50 Cent’s “Not Rich, Still Lyin’”, released on Bulletproof: The Soundtrack in 2006б with 50 mocking Game’s voice so closely that he was effectively “starring as Game” the track. The other option was Eminem’s verse on Ez Mil’s “Realest”. On that verse, Eminem responded to The Game, who tried hard to start a beef with Marshall, repeating claims that nobody listens to Eminem, especially in the clubs, and releasing a 10-minute-long “Black Shady” diss that did not find much appreciation even in his own circles. And Marshall’s bars on “Realest” put a stop to Game’s attempts to escalate the situation.
Eminem dismissed Game’s club argument with one punchline: the only reason clubs still play Game’s music is because he still performs there.
However, when it came to choosing the strongest bars, The Game tried to downplay the situation and pretended that was not really the task. All he talked about was 50 Cent mocking his intonation on the track and how they are still brothers, even if they are not friends.
A lot [of people] over the years have tried to imitate my voice – even AI. I did see some people trying to do it with AI, and it gets pretty close. So, I think I got to go with Fifty on that. He did pretty good, I’m not going to lie. He did so good that when we started playing it, I thought it was me for a second. Then I remembered, that’s Fifty’s diss.
But the thing that people misconstrue about me and Fifty is that: when we had a problem – we really had a problem. But it was amongst brothers. But at that time it could have gone either way. We really wanted to hurt each other. But 20 years later, I think he’s comedic. I got humour. He’s a troll. I’ll troll. We just don’t really fuck with each other like that. He fucks with everybody, but he don’t really fuck with Game. And then I’m caught up on Force, you know what I’m saying? I watch Power!
Meanwhile, Eminem’s bars did not seem nearly as funny to Game, evidently. And while he claimed nobody has put out anything notable that really got to him, it seems like Marshall’s lines got under his skin. At the very least, he seemed more comfortable talking about 50 Cent and ignored the Eminem’s part completely.
