Back in the days, Def Jam released an iconic fighting game that featured elite rappers and incredible game mechanic. Can fans have something like that again, but with Eminem?
There was a moment in 2018 when the possibility seemed to be real.
Let’s rewind to remember the glorious console classic “Def Jam: Fight for NY”. The game was released in 2004 as a sequel to” Def Jam: Vendetta”. The third game, “Def Jam: Icon”, has ruined the franchise, but the fans still nurture a very fond memory of “Fight for NY”. And the hope to eventually get something as good but updated to keep up with the current time.
Def Jam teased the fans mercilessly, hinting either at a remix of “Fight for NY” or a new instalment into the franchise. So eventually, in August 2018, an Australian artist BossLogic posted a picture that looked like the cover art for a new Def Jam game. It had the title “Def Jam: World War”, the list of rappers, those who took part in the classic edition, as well as newcomers and some who were around in 2004 but never made it to the game. And with Eminem on the cover.
BossLogic captioned his exercise with:
So @defjam have been teasing ‘Def jam Fight for…’ for a bit now and I really hope this game makes a come back! Fight for NY is still one of my favourite games #DefJamWorldWar

It has exploded. The fans were so hungry for good gaming content that they were ready to believe that “Def Jam: World War” was real.
And suddenly, today, BossLogic decided to air this stunt again. He posted a couple of other covers he made, tagging Ed Boon, a video game creator who has been working on the Mortal Combat series since the very beginning:
I’m just going to leave these here @noobde 😁❤️

The fans might as well start feeling hopeful again. Especially after the recent announcement about Eminem getting his X-Men incarnation. With all these NFTs, animated videos, comic books – why not add Em’s video game avatar to the count? Marshall did it in 2005 for “50 Cent: Bulletproof”, he can do it again.
