Marshall’s Ford Field menu divided the SportsCenter presenters, but Mom’s Spaghetti already offered the best way to reconcile – over a plate of food.
ESPN SportsCenter anchor Michael Eaves took time on the Last Call show to talk about about Mom’s Spaghetti:
Remember the song where Eminem says “Mom’s Spaghetti?”? Eminem has a restaurant that opens on Lions game, and it’s a spaghetti sandwich. It’s such a throwback to when I was a kid. This sandwich is called the Lions ‘Sghetti Sandwich. You never had this? What was your childhood like?!
Michael’s co-host, Nicole Briscoe, shuddered when she heard the description. Not only had she never tried anything like that, but she also never would, the sports commentator proclaimed.
To each their own, as the saying goes. However, Mom’s Spaghetti stepped in and showed that everyone can find something to suit their taste on its menu. The official restaurant account reposted a snippet from the show and invited the hosts to visit:
Not ready for a ‘Sghetti Sandwich? It’s ok, we sell vegan meatballs, girl! @mrmichaeleaves, pull up! #YouFancyHuh
Clearly, Michael Eaves and Marshall both had some similarities in their upbringing. What might look like a monstrous carb bomb to some was perfectly acceptable childhood food for both of them.
In the interview before opening his restaurant, Eminem said:
Spaghetti sandwich is definitely some white trash shit. I hate the tangy zip of Miracle Whip, but spaghetti – that’s a touch of class. White trash. But I still eat it today.
He does, and so do many Lions fans who came to the Mom’s Spaghetti stand last Sunday and will return for the next Lions game.
