Two years after release, “Houdini” keeps stacking numbers, climbing higher on Eminem’s personal Spotify chart.
Upward trend
Last July, the lead single from The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) made its way into the Top 20 of Eminem’s most streamed songs on Spotify. Its popularity ensured the song would not stay at the bottom of the list for long. Now, we see the movement.
“Houdini” overtook “My Name Is” to reach No.19 on the ranking by making almost twice as many daily streams as the old hit. The TDOSS single has reached 760 million Spotify streams, while “My Name Is” fell short by 500,000 plays of keeping its placement.
It might surprise those who said, back when “Houdini” was just released, that it owed its popularity entirely to the classic Shady era and would not stand up to comparison. Well, two years might be enough time to recognise that “Houdini” has a life of its own, and it is a good one.
Tough competition
Admittedly, there are streaming juggernauts in Eminem’s catalogue. In fact, his Top 5 probably outstreams the rest of the Top 20. However, “Houdini” keeps a steady pace of 300,000 daily streams, placing the song ahead of such Top 20 tracks as “Lucky You” feat. Joyner Lucas, “River” feat. Ed Sheeran, “Venom”, “Forever”, “Forgot About Dre”, and even “Rap God”.
