The Game Interrupts Dr. Dre’s Date to Introduce His Son

A video of Dr. Dre and The Game exchanging greetings is circulating online, sparking reunion rumours. Not so fast. That was a coincidence that had nothing to do with planning or music.

A birthday boy

First, the video shows The Game hugging Dr. Dre and saying that his son is turning 19. Then Dre greeted a couple of guys until a cameraman said, “The birthday boy right here”, and Dre gave a young lad a hug and best wishes. Then Dr. Dre got another embrace from The Game and bid goodbye.

Enthusiasm divorced from reality

Later, when the video went public, the immediate interpretation was that The Game and Dre reunited after years of separation and mild hostility from The Game. It was Dr. Dre who signed The Game, produced his debut album, and placed him in G-Unit, trying to find him the best path to success. However, this decision did not align with Game’s ambitions, and his relationship with 50 Cent was terrible. Eventually, he left the group and Aftermath altogether under a cloud, terminating his contract with G-Unit in 2006.

Since then, The Game has not had a good word to say about Fifty, is very conflicted about Eminem, and regularly takes subliminal shots at Dr. Dre. For instance, in 2022, when Game had his Kanye West appreciation era, he said in the interview: “It is crazy that Ye did more for me in the last two weeks than Dre did for me my whole career”. Kanye himself questioned this assessment, but that’s how The Game felt at the moment.

Nothing in recent history suggested that The Game or Dre wanted to work together again. Needless to say, this giant leap from a minute-long interaction to mapping out the joint album is nothing but wishful thinking from people who do not even know these artists well enough to understand the context.

Details behind the scenes

The video that’s circulating now, with bold statements about a reunion, was initially posted by a car dealership that delivered a gift to a Malibu restaurant where the Game celebrated his son’s birthday. There, the rapper was giving him a car as a surprise, and the company was filming the whole process in the restaurant parking lot.

It was when they noticed Dre going to his car that someone shouted, “Look, it’s Dr. Dre!” Dre waved back, and The Game rushed towards him. Evidently, The Good Doctor was being polite through the whole exchange, hugged the birthday boy, but he was not there to “squash the beef”.

Moreover, the situation must be awkward for him, as he was in the same restaurant with his alleged date. According to Entertainment Weekly, Dr. Dre left the Nobu restaurant holding hands with Michelle Saniei, who stars in the reality television series The Valley. The photos of them sparked dating rumours, on which neither party has commented.

Meanwhile, the page that posted these photos has since taken them down. Still, you can spot Michelle even in the video with The Game that everybody shares.

Maybe, that’s what Dr. Dre would prefer: for everyone to talk about his reunion with The Game rather than discuss that he might be dating again after his painful divorce.
