Benzino’s daughter Coi Leroy builds her own career in hip hop and has already commercial and charting success to brag about. But the shadow of his long-going beef with Eminem is still here.
She could see it again during her visit to Math Hoffa’s podcast. Among questions about her music, her experience, and relationship with her father, there will always be a follow up question about his beef. And she will try to dodge it as it did this time:
I don’t know about the Eminem thing. I was not old enough to understand it. So I can’t even tell you about that.
However, it is not completely true. And one of Math’s co-hosts reminded Coi about a very recent episode in her father’s drama with Eminem, in which she took part herself. So he recapped Benzino’s outrage about Marshall’s Hall of Fame induction followed by Coi’s tweet in support of Eminem, which in its turn made Benzino scream about his daughter’s “disloyalty”. Considering that just a month before that Benzino called off his beef with Eminem and decided not to draw negative attention to himself so not to jeopardise his daughter’s commercial success, this episode was especially tense and entertaining. Coi Leray understandably wanted to distance herself from all this trouble and said:
I don’t know if that was the case. I know that anything that has to do with Eminem I don’t have nothing to do with those times, so don’t involve me in it. I’m my own person. Don’t do that. I’mma ride for my father regardless. ‘Cause he is my father. I don’t give a fuck what anybody says. But right is right and wrong is wrong. At the end of the day, I wasn’t there to understand. But what I do know is all that rap beef shit, even just today, is just a fucking noise to me. It is just so noise to me I just think it’s so corny. I don’t pay no mind to it. I don’t. If my father feels how he feels I was not there so I can’t give my opinion on how he feels. I just wasn’t old enough to understand those times. I watched “8 Mile” and I thought it was a great movie. “8 Mile” was crazy. It was one of the great movies, he was great actor. I could tell you some songs that I think are fucking great growing up because I’m very musically inclined. But that’s all I can tell you. I’m not an Eminem fan. I don’t listen to Eminem but I do know “I said, I’m sorry mama, I’m cleaning out my closet”. At the end of the day, I was not there.
But now she’s here and can make her own decision. So, highly hypothetically speaking, would she hop on a song with Eminem? The answer comes fast:
Hell, no! Unless I got my father’s blessing. I would sit down with my father first of all and bring it up to him. I wouldn’t even ask. I’ll be like, “Yo, listen, this is what happened”. I’m not even expecting an answer. Even if me and my father could never be speaking for fucking years, if that was to happen I’ll be , “All right, hold on, let me just tell you this. Let me bring it to your attention”. And hopefully he’ll be like, “Yo, you know what, do it. I’m past the past.I love you and I support you. If it’s positive it’s gonna better you in any way then I’m for that”. I’ll do that in these circumstances. But if he says no then that’s it. Because again, at the end of the day, I wasn’t there.
So, it looks like she would, as any young artist would. But she understands how sore this topic is for Benzino and knows that it might be a breaking point for their relationships. So after all it is not even her decision to make. Well, she should not worry about it, really, as a call from Eminem will probably never reaches her. Because of her father or not we will not know, but his shadow will always be behind her back.
