The Bad Meets Evil reunion on Music to Be Murdered By has earned its first official certification in the United Kingdom.
Together again
“You Gon’ Learn” saw the light of day in January 2020, when Eminem released his second surprise album. For the fans missing Marshall and Royce’s chemistry, this song was a rare gift. The track showcased both their lyrical dexterity and recognisable flows that complement each other so well. White Gold’s melodic hook provided a perfect counterweight to their intensity.
Naturally, the track became a fan favourite, and its new certification reflects that popularity. “You Gon’ Learn” is a non-single, but now that matters far less than it once did. Moreover, it does not prevent a song from being certified if it finds its audience.
Finding recognition
Today, music consumption is driven by streaming. If a song can show over 100 million streams on Spotify, it usually means that it approaches the certification threshold in such territories as Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. That’s why for “You Gon’ Learn”, which has surpassed 170 million streams on Spotify alone, the UK award is not its first certification.
The song received Gold status in New Zealand in July 2024, and the BPI has now awarded it Silver status in the UK.
Marshall’s joint with Royce is one of the most popular songs on Music to Be Murdered By. Perhaps many fans see it as an unofficial Bad Meets Evil single. And while the idea of these two reuniting for a new album remains more dream than a realistic possibility, the duo’s dedicated followers will continue to play their latest joint and hope for more to come.
