SZA channelled her inner Shady for self-care, giving “Lose Yourself” a soulful twist that Eminem appreciated.

The TDE songstress shared a snippet of herself covering Eminem’s iconic “Lose Yourself” with a twist.

Gone are the pounding drums and blistering beats. Instead, SZA delivers the first verse, chorus, and part of the second verse backed by a gentle piano and soulful bass, showcasing a completely different side to the song.

This stripped-down cover wasn’t meant for any upcoming projects, though. In the caption, SZA reveals:

U ever just cover Eminem on some tender shit for feels? It is not on a project; it is just for mental health.

Eminem himself acknowledged the cover with a simple “Flushed Face” emoji in the comments. He did it on the day of his new single release. SZA posted the cover just about an hour before the “Houdini” dropped. Questlove chimed with “!!” while Camila Cabello couldn’t hide her awe, commenting, “holy shit”, and Denaun Porter left a simple “Love it”.

SZA’s soulful take on “Lose Yourself” is a reminder that music can be a source of healing. We knew that “Lose Yourself” could be therapeutic, but SZA found a beautiful softness and vulnerability in it.
