When ‘Stan’ dropped in 2000 it became one of Eminem’s most enduring hits. There’s a big difference, however, between a great track and one with real cultural impact. ‘Stan’ was both and the word quickly went into common use. It may have taken 17 years but the word has gained official recognition, Eminem credits and all.

A groundbreaking single from “The Marshall Mathers LP” has obtained a new certification from the British Phonographic industry.

Released in 2000, “Stan” has become the benchmark for the intricate and powerful storytelling, expanding vocabulary along the way. How many rappers can state that their lyrics have given birth to the whole concept of understanding a cult culture in the music industry and birthed a new term adopted both by actual language as a slang term and by academics, which included the term in the Oxford English Dictionary?

The popularity of the song has translated into its commercial success. “Stan” has become an international hit, debuting at No.1 on multiple national charts. Although, in the US, it didn’t go above No.51 on the Billboard Hot 100. But even more than an instant success, “Stan” demonstrates longevity. With over 1 billion streams, it is Eminem’s ninth most streamed song on Spotify. It was certified 4x Platinum in the US in March 2022, and now, it is 4x Platinum in the UK.
