Irish singer-songwriter Seán Molloy has released his debut single, “It’s Not Your Fault”. The song marks the beginning of a career built on courage, honesty, and survival.

Born with albinism and legally blind, Seán faced bullying and discrimination throughout his school years. His early adulthood was shaped by grief, addiction, and loss. Yet, through all the struggles, he found a voice — one that speaks directly to those who feel unseen or unheard.

Recently, in an interview with RTÉ, Ireland’s National Public Service Media, Seán opened up about his creative journey, his inspirations, and the artists who gave him the confidence to tell his story.

Inspired by Artists Who Speak the Truth

When asked about his biggest musical inspirations, Seán named P!nk, Hozier, and Eminem artists known for speaking honestly about pain and resilience. “Musicians who tell it how it is,” he said. “Who speak about the hard topics or are generally the underdogs.”

Moreover, Seán credits his friend Ross, better known as Throwing Snow, for helping him find the confidence to share his truth after years of silence.

Seán also revealed his favourite lyric of all time, quoting Eminem’s “Beautiful”:

I think I’m starting to lose my sense of humour,
Everything’s so tense and gloom,
I almost feel like I gotta check,
The temperature of the room.

Why “Beautiful” Still Resonates

For Seán, these lines reflect the raw emotion of surviving hardship. Many see Eminem as controversial, but for people who’ve faced hardship, his words often feel like lifelines.

Eminem started writing “Beautiful” while in rehab, describing it as the most meaningful track from his “Relapse” album. In a 2009 MTV interview, he said, “I wrote the first verse and a half in rehab, and when I came out, I finished it. It’s the only song that marks that period without bringing me back to that place”.

At its core, the song is about depression, but it ends with hope, a promise that things can get better. That message, of pain transforming into power, mirrors Seán’s own journey.

The Power of Honest Music

Recently, even Eminem’s daughter Alaina Scott echoed similar themes when she spoke out against body shaming, encouraging self-acceptance and compassion. It’s proof that his music continues to inspire strength across generations.

Now, Seán Molloy carries that torch forward. With “It’s Not Your Fault”, he tells his truth, showing that vulnerability is not weakness but the beginning of healing.
