It won’t come as a surprise, but Ras Kass believes that rappers who rely on ghostwriters should not attempt to battle people who pen their own lyrics.
There were times when Ras Kass and The Game represented the West Coast culture in hip hop. Since then, they have taken different routes and now exist on different levels. Ras has gained respect and the status of a living legend, The Game is chasing clout and going to diss Eminem to get back into the conversation.
In his interview with The Art Of Dialogue, Ras could not stop laughing when he was asked for a commentary on The Game’s recent claims. Though the MC was careful not to name names, his position was clear:
I’m a fan of Eminem. I knew Eminem. I’m gonna say this. Only rappers that write their raps should battle rappers that write their raps. Period. You take from that what you want to take. I’m no big respecter of who is more popular. You watch somebody that ain’t popular, and they’d be like, “Yo, that shit is rigged, it’s fucked up!” And when they get popping, they are like, “Yeah, I did it! I did it by myself!” Quite a few people. I find that some people complain about the system when it doesn’t work to their advantage. But all the time it was working to their advantage, it was all good. And they was the best, and they dig the biggest, and they is the smartest, and they is the hardest and whatever. There is a saying, “Who you see on your way up, you see on your way down”. I would argue again that Eminem as an MC deserves his respect. Just like Royce 5’9, just like Pharoahe Monch, just like Redman, just like Chino XL, just like Sick Jacken, Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul. Ain’t no nigga on the pedestal high enough where he can’t get into a battle. But one rule of it is — you gotta write your raps. If you don’t write your raps and you sit around with two or three other niggas helping write your raps — you are not in this conversation. And you could extrapolate from that what you want. I’m not naming no weird niggas in this conversation.
This is a harsh but absolutely valid point from the perspective of a veteran rapper who has always supported independent art and artists. And everybody knows how much of a collective effort The Game’s tracks have always been. Although, some lines from his allegedly upcoming diss are so bad that you can suspect he wrote them himself.
