Sharon Dastur went from working at a local Houston station to programming at Z100 and iHeart, and later became Senior Programming & Content Advisor at media and entertainment group Global. She has met just about everyone in the business, and recently she looked back at some of the most memorable meetings. Eminem’s story stood out.
Recently, Sharon posted another chapter of her The Legends series. The photos are special because she took them for her own archive ather than for the press.
So, the recent chapter gave Eminem fans a previously unpublished photo and a story about Marshall’s extravagant but effective way of getting around New York. Sharon, who met Marshall when she worked for the New York Z100 radio station, remembers:
Eminem – the only artist to take a helicopter from Manhattan to Jersey City for the interview. We could see him take off from the West Side Hwy and land on the Jersey side 3 minutes later.
For those unfamiliar with the geography, Jersey City is directly across the Hudson from lower Manhattan. It is a short trip by PATH, ferry or car through the Holland Tunnel. But of course, nobody expected Marshall to take a train for the radio interview.
