Eminem Lose Yourself Ryder Cup

Ever since The Times published an exclusive report that PGA of America president Don Rea performed karaoke on Saturday night of the Ryder Cup, golf fans have been waiting for the footage. Now, it is out there for all to see.

The Shotgun Start podcast shared a clip on X showing Rea rapping Eminem’s classic “Lose Yourself”.

Don Rea Channels His Inner B-Rabbit

You can disagree with his interpretation, but he certainly gave it his best shot, and it seems to work. To be fair, the Americans did rally on Sunday after that meeting. After all, they were trailing 11.5 to 4.5 the day before.

The video quickly sparked debate online. Some users could not handle the “cringe” and jokingly apologised to B-Rabbit. Others praised Rea’s confidence, saying that if it helps motivate the team, he should do it every day.

Eminem’s Spirit Lives Everywhere, Even in Golf

However, this video highlighted one fact: you can find an Eminem fan in every corner of life, even in professional golf. The sport is not as far removed from Slim Shady as it might seem.

Many golfers actually draw inspiration from his music. Norwegian pro Viktor Hovland has admitted to using B-Rabbit’s techniques to get into the pre-battle focus. Even Eminem’s daughter, Hailie Jade, recently took part in a golf tournament.

And of course, Eminem himself made a surprise cameo in the golf comedy “Happy Gilmore 2”, which smashed Netflix streaming records and showed off his sense of humour.

The Karaoke Controversy

So why did this karaoke moment make headlines? It traces back to the original Times report, which criticised Rea for singing at a private Ryder Cup party instead of speaking out more strongly about crowd behaviour at Bethpage Black.

Sure, Rea could have addressed the issue more directly, even golfer Matt Fitzpatrick wasn’t pleased. But saying the PGA president shouldn’t grab a mic and rap for a few minutes seems like a stretch.

Sometimes, a little “Lose Yourself” energy is exactly what the team needs.
