A short comment from an American comedian sparked a new round of debates on Eminem’s legacy.

Lil Duval wanted only to highlight how insignificant feels a recent scuffle between the leading ladies of hip hop. What do some social media barbs mean compared to nationwide coverage of insults to public hypocrisy? Is there anyone now who would be able to step up to the level of don’t-give-a-fuckery at which Slim Shady operated? So Lil Duval asked:

Wait til the woman Eminem come out and blow up. These women gon be PISSED! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

To the surprise of nobody, the discussion derailed immediately. You would be pressed to find any constructive comment on the current situation. Meanwhile, the amount of tired takes on Em’s “irrelevance” will make your eyes bleed. Starting with the first that stated:

In the streaming era??? That’s not gone happen. Everybody got they own playlists. And don’t get me started on Eminem. Yes he did numbers but his Albums aren’t being studied like Illmatic. He has NO CLASSICS.

Of course, people responded with facts, reminders of the massive numbers Marshall’s albums made in the streaming era, schools that study Eminem’s poetry, and hip hop stars that grew up on Em’s music and analysed his every verse. No matter how often hip hop fans have to educate internet strangers, there will always be a new one with little knowledge and many opinions.

But back to the starting topic. Do you think hip hop needs the female Eminem?
