Eminem and Royce’s epic reunion project, “Hell: The Sequel”, has reached a new streaming milestone, passing 900 million plays on Spotify.
Bad Meets Evil, the powerhouse pairing of Eminem and Royce da 5’9, has crossed 900 million Spotify streams for their only joint record, “Hell: The Sequel”. Released in 2011, the project marked a long-awaited reunion between the Detroit legends after years of silence and personal conflict.
Originally teaming up in 1998, the duo debuted with the underground classics “Nuttin’ to Do” and “Scary Movies”. However, their partnership fell apart after Royce feuded with D12. It wasn’t until Proof’s tragic passing in 2006 that the two began to reconcile.
The Making of Hell: The Sequel
After Eminem signed Slaughterhouse to Shady Records, the pair reunited in the studio. The result was Hell: The Sequel, a tightly produced, nine-track project that blurred the line between EP and LP. Critics and fans alike praised it for its sharp lyricism and chemistry.
Two tracks, “Living Proof” and “Echo”, were leaked before release and later appeared on the deluxe edition. The record also featured standout singles, “Lighters” featuring Bruno Mars, which went double platinum, and “Fast Lane”, which was certified Gold in 2012. Eminem and Mr. Porter handled production duties, keeping the sound rooted in the gritty Detroit style.
Chart Success and Legacy
The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 171,000 copies in its first week. Subsequently, within two months, the RIAA certified it Gold. By 2021, it had sold over 1 million copies in the US, making it eligible for Platinum status.
Now, with more than 900 million streams on Spotify, “Hell: The Sequel” remains the staple of the hip hop history. It remains Eminem’s least streamed album and Royce da 5’9’s most streamed — and a unique project for them both.
Though Bad Meets Evil have not officially disbanded, fans have been holding out hope for their next release way too long. And will keep waiting for as long as it takes.
