A song once meant for Hailie’s ears only continues to reach new listeners — and now, new generations.
Back in 2002, Eminem recorded a song he never planned to release. “Hailie’s Song” was written purely for his daughter — a personal gift, an emotional outlet, and a way to celebrate their bond during custody battles with Kim. But when he played it for friends, the response was clear: it needed to be shared.
Now, more than 20 years later, that deeply personal track has officially passed 150 million streams on Spotify, becoming his 71st song of all credits to do so.
Featured on “The Eminem Show”, “Hailie’s Song” stood out for many reasons. It was vulnerable, melodic, and featured Eminem singing — something he was clearly nervous about, judging by the track’s intro. But that rawness struck a chord, and it still does.
Interestingly, the original version sampled The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, but George Harrison’s widow declined to clear it. So the song was rebuilt from scratch — and maybe it was for the better. The final version still carries all the emotion Eminem poured into it, with no distractions.
With Hailie recently becoming a mom herself, “Hailie’s Song” takes on even more weight. It is a snapshot of a young father determined to be present for his daughter — and now, that daughter is stepping into parenthood herself. And Marshall will still be around as the No.1 Grandpa, as Hailie declared him.
