To celebrate the 50th hip hop anniversary, the biggest song lyrics platform works its way through its database to identify the top artists, songs, albums, and producers from 2009 to the present. The 2018 list could not miss Marshall’s first surprise drop.

The platform didn’t say a word about other albums, though, focusing its long article on Drake’s long album entirely. However, we know that the album rating is based on the number of hits generated by their lyric pages. It does not correspond with the album’s sales or streams, only with the number of people who wanted to read the lyrics and understand the songs better. This way, Post Malone’s “Beerbongs & bentleys” might have over 11 billion streams and be in the Top 10 most streamed albums overall. Still, the lyrics were not appealing enough for the audience to put the album even in the Top 5 of the year of its release. Three albums that intrigued the public the most were Drake’s “Scorpion”, Travis Scott’s “ASTROWORLD”, and Eminem’s “Kamikaze”.

Here are the Top 10 hip-hop albums of 2018 on Genius.

1. Scorpion, Drake
2. ASTROWORLD, Travis Scott
3. Kamikaze, Eminem
