Two generations came together in one confusion, each having their own half of an answer.

The “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” actors went on a press junket recently, and while their role was to respond to questions, some found their own answers.

The Wasp, Evangeline Lilly, was paired with young Marvel debutant Kathryn Newton when a journalist called Kathryn an MCU stan. Lilly looked confused by their dialogue, which quickly slipped into discussing Sebastian Stan. Apparently, she didn’t know about this (relatively) new meaning of the word as an obsessive fan. Newton was absolutely familiar with the concept and tried to illustrate it with “I stan Evangeline Lilly”. That’s when the recognition hit Lilly.

“Is this because of Eminem’s song?!”, the “Lost” star exclaimed. “Now it makes a lot of sense”. And then there was Newton’s turn to feel lost, “What? What Eminem song? “Stan”? Huh?

Evangeline Lilly hummed the hook to Newton’s immediate recognition and explained: “The verses are all about this stalkery fan who’s stalking Eminem and is obsessed”. The young actress looked stunned: “Stan?! I didn’t know that! WOW…”

Maybe, here lies the key to understanding why Eminem, remaining one of the most popular and successful artists in history, does not get full recognition. One generation doesn’t see how profound Em’s impact is on the world even beyond the culture. And the younger generation lives in the world Marshall has changed without realising that it was him, who changed it.
