A recent story about a six-foot tall marble penis delivered to Sam Smith’s door is inspired by a wedding gift Eminem sent to Elton John years ago.
Ed Sheeran is behind the invasion of marble penises to the media personalities’ homes, as Sam Smith recently revealed.
So Ed Sheeran had some explaining to do on a recent The Late Show with Stephen Colbert episode. Apparently, he was driven by a desire to impress Elton John, who still cannot get over the diamond cock-rings Eminem gifted him for his wedding. The rivalry inspired Ed to think big:
Elton John has been involved in my career from the get-go, and he buys me weird gifts. Well, you know… I really can’t talk about some of them on TV, but just like, odd gifts, sexual sort of objects. I love you, Elton. He is very proud of the fact that Eminem bought him and his husband, David, diamond-encrusted cock rings for their wedding. Whenever I’m around there, they’re like, “Check it out, ain’t this cool?!” And I’m like, I need to one-up this, I need to get Elton a present that’s going to make him go: “Oh my god”. So I’m like, I’ll get him a massive marble penis carved for his birthday.
The plan worked out well, Ed admits with satisfaction:
I gave it to him for his birthday, and Elton was over the moon about it. Then it got out in the press that I had done it because Elton was talking about it. Then I’d be doing interviews, and people would be like, “Can I have one?” So I would get them made for radio interviewers and TV interviewers. And Sam was around in my house, Sam was recording at the studio up the road, and Sam saw one of them and said, “Can I have one?” And I said, “What would you like?” and Sam said, “One the size of me, one that’s 6’2. So … there we go. That’s it.
