Ed Sheeran said before that Eminem was one of his main inspirations as a songwriter. Ed still can rap his favourite flow from “The Marshall Mathers LP”.
Radio host Michael Bennett prompted the Ipswitch singer/songwriter to talk about Eminem on air recently. When asked about his favourite Eminem lyric, Ed only hesitated a second before rapping the third verse of “Criminal” from the top of his head:
Windows tinted on my ride when I drive in it (Go, go, go!)
So when I rob a bank, run out and just dive in it
So I’ll be disguised in it and if anybody identifies
The guy in it, I hide for five minutes
Come back, shoot the eyewitness
Fire at the private eye hired to pry in my business
Die bitches, bastards, brats, pets
This puppy’s lucky I didn’t blast his ass yet
“You know, just that, just the flow of that is fucking amazing”, added the English superstar in awe.
They still maintain a friendly relationship, and Ed seems like a person who knows how to pick a well-thought-through gift for a friend. He demonstrated it by sending a present to Em for his feature on the 2019’s “No.6 Collaborations Project”:
We’ve done three tunes together. I’ve said to him before, he’s one of the reasons why I started writing music. When I did this collaborations project, I sent everyone involved a really really nice bottle of wine. He’s obviously sober, so I didn’t send him wine. I know he’s a big gamer, so I sent him a Nintendo64 with “GoldenEye” on it. He’d never played it, but I hope he has now.
