Drake dropped a freestyle with British rapper Central Cee on the “On The Radar” channel and left some hidden messages in his lyrics.

Generally, Drake’s verse is focused on declaring his success, financial wealth, business smarts, and popularity among women, you know, bragging. However, somewhere in the middle Drake casually rapped a familiar phrase dropping the name of a singer we know it from:

The morning rain clouds up my window, I swear I feel like Dido

Yes, strictly speaking he has referenced Dido’s 1998 song “Thank You”. You can safely assume that not that many people in his target audience listen to vintage British melancholic pop. Yet almost everybody can recognise this line from Eminem’s hit “Stan” loved by so many even outside of the hip hop culture.

So yes, Drake was very, very subtle with his reference. But he made it anyway. Because you cannot deny the impact Marshall has left on hip hop.
