Streaming has become the main avenue of music consumption lately, but artists do not benefit from it the way streaming platforms do, thinks “Superman” singer Dina Rae.

Dina recorded her vocals for “The Marshall Mathers LP”, “The Eminem Show”, “Encore”, and two D12 albums, as well as for other artists like Ras Kass, Obie Trice, Dolly Parton and more. Tracks she has worked on show impressive numbers, but it does not translate into an adequate paycheck, points out the artist.

She reposted a number count for “The Eminem Show” that combined Spotify and YouTube streams bringing the total sum almost up to 7 billion. In the caption, Dina expressed her frustration with how outdated the pay-out system for artists was and suggested that it would take a giant figure like Eminem to force streaming platforms to re-evaluate their relationship with artists:

GRATEFUL 2 BE A PART OF THIS BUT THE REALITY IS THE STREAMING CHECKS DONT MATCH THESE NUMBERS @spotify @PANDORA GOTTA DO BETTER AND ITS GONNA TAKE. @EMINEM TO SPEAK UP AND THREATEN TO REMOVE HIS CONTENT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR OUR RIGHTS! #SUPERMAN

Dina certainly has a point. But then we know that Spotify has been allegedly cheating even Eminem for years, pretending that they didn’t know to whom some of his songs belong, like “Lose Yourself”, for instance. And now they are fighting a court case. It might take more than one artist to sort things out.
