Conway the Machine is working on finishing his Shady Records debut “From King to a God” and the real life is bleeding into his music.

He introduced a new track for the album on his Instagram just on the first days of unrest in the US and in no time he was ready to release the track officially. Conway gave an explanation to Complex:

In the middle of the COVID pandemic, I’ve been quarantined finishing up FKTG. The Amaud situation and Breonna situation and now George Floyd has brought me so much pain and anger because I’m a black man: a father, a brother, I have 2 sons. I wanted to give you the mindset from the protesters point of view, and I was able to paint that picture perfectly over this Beat Butcha production.

The inspiration behind the song is evident in the lyrics:

I just seen a video on the news I couldn’t believe
Another racist cop killed a nigga and get to leave
He screamin’ ‘I can’t breathe,’ cop ignoring all his pleas
Hands in his pocket, leaning on his neck with his knees.

After a brief foray in a 6ixty9ine scandal bubble (While you so called real niggas celebratin’ rats
Goin’ on YouTube, runnin’ up these niggas’ views
) Conway the Machine focuses on more systemic issues and the response they finally provoked:

We ain’t takin’ no more, we ain’t just pressin’ record
Can’t watch you kill my brother, you gon’ have to kill us all
Just ’cause he from the ghetto, that don’t mean he sellin’ crack
He drivin’ home from work, you pull him over ’cause he black
Think he gangbangin’ ’cause he got dreads and a few tats
He reach for his ID, you think he reachin’ for a strap
He get out, put his hands up, and he still gettin’ clapped
But if he try to run, you just gon’ shoot him in his back
What if it was my son? I wonder how I’m gon’ react
I bet I’m finna run up in this precinct with this MAC
I swear to God
