China’s music market is an attractive one to win. It is still relatively small but it has enormous potential for growth, and international entertainment companies fight to tap into this potential and attract its audience.
As recent numbers on digital album sales demonstrate, the taste of this audience is as eclectic as it is consistent – there are 3 rather different artists who made it to Chinese Top 10 more than once. Eminem being the only rapper and the only one with his career started in the last century. Two of his albums – “Kamikaze” and “Revival” – are included in Top 10. He is second in popularity to Taylor Swift, who is adored by Chinese audience and who is the only one in the list with sales over 1 million units.
