Ahead of the biggest-ever auction of items from Eminem’s personal collection, Marshall has changed his profile picture tto draw attention to the sale and help raise more money for his foundation.
Over 100 lots of signed Nike, Jordan Brand, Carhartt, PUMA, and Adidas sneakers collected by Eminem over two decades are hitting the auction block at Julien’s Auctions this month.
Among them are the rarest of items, including pairs that Eminem wore on stage. One of them – the Air Jordan 3s, created specifically for the Super Bowl halftime show – is now up on Eminem’s social accounts as his profile picture.
Marshall’s attention to the auction is understyandable. The Marshall Mathers Foundation has been an important project for him since he established it in 2002. With zero paid employees, zero liabilities, and almost all revenue spent on grants, this nonprofit works less like a public-facing celebrity charity and more like a quiet, tightly run grant-making organisation that sends nearly every dollar directly to youth programs, sports initiatives, and academic services in Detroit.
But the need is always greater than any one foundation can meet. So Eminem’s new fundraising effort will turn collector demand into money for Detroit youth.
