Full name: Air Jordan 2 Retro Eminem “The Way I Am”
Colourway: Black / Stealth / Varsity Red
Model code: 308308-002
Year of release: 2008
Production run: 313 pairs
The release coincided with the launch of Eminem’s autobiography, The Way I Am, published on October 21, 2008.
Trivia:
Why the Air Jordan 2?
It was not a random choice. The Air Jordan 2 was the first Jordan model Eminem bought for himself, and it is widely considered his favourite Jordan silhouette.
Where were they sold?
The trainers were sold exclusively through Air Jordan Flight Club. They never received a wide retail release. Only 313 pairs were produced – and obviously that number wasn’t random. It’s a nod to 313, the area code of Eminem’s hometown, Detroit.
Retail price:
$110
What was included in the set?
Alongside the trainers, the set included an official Jordan Brand T-shirt with The Way I Am print and the original packaging.
The design features a light grey suede upper, with red and white lettering on the mudguard and ankle inspired by Eminem’s handwritten lyrics. The same visual style was used for the cover of The Way I Am, tying the trainers directly to the book release.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale was donated to charity through the Marshall Mathers Foundation.
How much do they cost now?
Prices vary widely. On eBay, even pairs in very poor condition, without the original box and laces, can be listed for around $3,000–$4,000. A pair in good condition, even without the box and laces, can reach $7,000–$8,000. Meanwhile, Sotheby’s has valued a pair in collector condition at $3,000–$5,000.
As always with rare sneakers, the final price depends heavily on size, condition, provenance, and whether the original box and extras are included.
