Taylor’s new single is projected to debut at No.1 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, making it the first song to enter directly at the top since Eminem’s “Houdini” on the chart dated June 15, 2024.

Back in June, Eminem stunned the industry when his comeback single, “Houdini”, blasted to No.1 in Canada, the UK, and across multiple national charts, including Billboard Global. The track gained 100 million Spotify streams in under two weeks. Naturally, it became one of the biggest debuts of the year. Its nostalgic video, full of callbacks to early 2000s Slim Shady, shot up YouTube charts. Just because fans celebrated the return of the cocky persona that made Em famous.

Even more impressive, Houdini was a completely organic No.1, released without any interviews, limited editions, or physical sales. The song reached the top purely on streaming power and fan excitement.

Fans react

Now, as Taylor’s cinematic single “The Fate of Ophelia” gears up for a similar achievement, fans are quick to draw comparisons and note the difference.

An X user pointed out the lack of hype behind Em’s release that did not stop him from achieving the feat: “Congrats to the 52 yo rapper Eminem who did it with an organic hit 😃”

Following the plot, a respectable fan account added: “With no multiple vinyls, CDs… nothing. He dropped and didn’t even talk about it 😁 Sometimes this level of No.1 songs hits differently”.

Another users summarised it: “Eminem doesn’t need tricks to hit #1, even with lack of marketing from his team. He is one of the top favorite Gen Z’s music artists. Eminem’s influence and longevity is so crazy”.

It is rare for hip hop and pop to intersect so directly in the charts, but moments like this remind everyone that Slim Shady’s legacy still looms large. Even when Taylor Swift reports on her gains, Marshall is never far from the conversation.
