The XXL magazine revealed the list of nominees for its annual award ceremony. Eminem, 50 Cent, and The Alchemist are running in several different categories.
Eminem, who has not dropped a new album for over four years, is shortlisted for the Hip-Hop’s Humanitarian of the Year award. E-40, Fat Joe, Jay-Z, Latto, and Lil Durk are also nominated. It is ironic, after the accusations that Eminem did nothing for the community, which Dr. Umar threw earlier this year, to see Marshall’s efforts recognised.
The visuals directed by Cole Bennett for Juice WRLD and Cordae’s “Doomsday” are nominated for Video of the Year. It is also interesting, considering that the song is basically Juice’s freestyle over Eminem’s “Role Model” beat with Cordae’s verse, added later.
The Alchemist, while not technically on the Shady Records roster, is undoubtedly a Shady family member. He received a nomination in the Producer of the Year category alongside Metro Boomin, Hit-Boy, and more.
Meanwhile, 50 Cent has been nominated in two categories, as a Performer of the Year and The People’s Champ. The public will pick a winner in the People’s Champ category. Fans can cast a vote once an hour from now until Sun., Feb. 18 at 11:59 p.m. EST on the magazine web page.
The winners in all other categories will be determined by the XXL Awards Board, which now consists of 255 label executives, A&Rs, marketing experts, managers, promoters, producers, DJs, publicists, select veteran artists and more. Forty-one new members, including Cam’ron, Jermaine Dupri, N.O.R.E., Reggie Saunders, Styles P, and N9ne, joined the awards board this year.
