The lead single from “The Marshall Mathers LP” has reached a new significant milestone on Spotify.
Originally, “Who Knew” was intended as the lead single, but Jimmy Iovine of Interscope Records pushed for Eminem to have a lead-in song for the album, akin to “My Name Is” from “The Slim Shady LP”. Collaborating with Dr. Dre, Tommy Coster, and Mike Elizondo, Eminem penned “The Real Slim Shady” mere hours before the final album copy was due. The rest is history.
The song marked Eminem’s first No.1 in the UK and reached the fourth spot on the Billboard Hot 100, standing as his most significant hit at that time. “The Real Slim Shady” has garnered accolades, including MTV Video Music Awards for Best Video and Best Male Video and a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance.
Now, “The Real Slim Shady” is Eminem’s fourth track to earn 1.6 billion streams on Spotify after “Lose Yourself”, “Without Me”, and “Till I Collapse”.
