The combined number of certified units “Recovery” has sold is 46 million.

This number combines album and track units and places Marshall’s classic album at No.4 among the five highest RIAA certified projects in history. “Recovery” is also the only hip hop album on the list:

1. “Teenage Dream” Katy Perry — 64.5 million
2. “Thriller” Michael Jackson — 56 million
3. “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” Bruno Mars — 48 million
4. “Recovery” Eminem — 46 million
5. “1989” Taylor Swift — 45 million

“Recovery” does even better when only certified track units are taken into account. With 38 million units moved, the project shares the third spot with Cardi’s “Invasion of Privacy” that just updated its certification to get into this ranking:

1. “Teenage Dream” Katy Perry — 56.5 million
2. “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” Bruno Mars — 41 million
3. “Recovery” Eminem, “Invasion of Privacy” Cardi B — 38 million
4. “Beauty Behind The Madness” The Weeknd — 37 million
5. “1989” Taylor Swift — 36 million

In March 2022, the RIAA certified 8 “Recovery” times platinum for sales of over 8 million in the US. We can only imagine how much higher are its international sales.
