50 Cent’s New Hulu Documentary is Not a Joke

When Fifty shared news that Hulu beat out Starz, Netflix, and Apple in the competition for his new documentary project, everybody thought it was an April Fool’s joke. Look, who’s laughing now?

Elaborate setup

In our defence, the story presentation did not look convincing; no other sources confirmed the claim, and TMZ did not have any supporting material, despite its logo appearing on the picture that Fifty shared on his socials. On the contrary, everybody agreed that Fif was just fooling around. Complex even included this post in its April Fool’s Day summary.

Now, it seems that the truth has been out there all this time. Deadline confirms the information, citing its own sources.

Moreover, the industry publication reveals that the documentary will focus on the subject nobody knows better than 50 Cent: Curtis Jackson. That’s right, Fifty will produce the documentary about himself for one of the biggest streaming platforms in the game.

Professional team

According to Deadline, the documentary consists of three parts and traces Fifty’s life from his tough childhood in Queens to the life-changing shooting to getting signed by Eminem and becoming a domineering voice in hip hop.

All main creators working on the projects already have experience. Director Mandon Lovett has programmes such as For Khadija: The French Montana Story, Origins of Hip-Hop, and Hulu’s Rap Caviar Presents in his portfolio. At the same time, showrunner Patrick Altema has earlier produced Dreamland: The Burning of Black Wall Street and Free Meek. Of course, it will not be a new endeavour for the platform, which has presented such music documentary projects as Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story and Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band.

As one can expect, Fifty’s own production company, G-Unit Film & Television, also works on the documentary.

There is no information about the specific amount of money Hulu paid to land this project. However, if 50 Cent told the truth about the deal, and it’s obvious now that he did, why doubt the numbers?

New realms, solid skills

In fact, with this new layer of making something unbelievable true, Fifty’s prank becomes even more complex and delightful. He beat everybody by saying the truth nobody believed in, only to confirm later that it was, indeed, the truth.

It is a new step in Fifty’s relationship with TV. The dramas he produces consistently occupy prime time and collect awards. His Netflix documentary was topping the daily charts when he dropped that Diddy expose. Hulu can be certain that it gets a good return on its money. No doubt that fans will tune in to learn one of the most fascinating stories in rap told from the first-person view. Also, it would be impossible to talk about Fifty’s rise to success without Eminem presenting his side of the story
