The Atlanta rapper remembers being frustrated by Dr. Dre making him run the same lines again and again. 2 Chainz did not want to sound like Eminem, so he finally snapped.
Talking to the Drink Champs, 2 Chainz revealed that he could not say that Dr. Dre would be his dream collaboration because it is not a dream. He worked with the Doctor, things just didn’t play out:
The work with Dre is not out. I don’t know if it will happen. I went to Dre’s crib, and he sat right here, and I was rapping right here. It was a little funny ‘cause I was getting a little frustrated because, I don’t know, I’m country, I’m from Atlanta. I don’t know what happened, whatever. At this time, I told him, “Look! I’m not like a white boy from Detroit! I fucking have like, uhmm, you know…” Because he was stopping me like, “Nah”. You know, I’m trying to rap, but he is a perfectionist, and it’s the reason he’s fucking who he is. So I got that after. I’m somebody that can do two or three songs a night. But with him, it’ll probably take months to do that because of the process of just getting one verse done and making sure you enunciate things and make sure it’s clear. And you know, I’m just like this, I’m from Atlanta. I learned a lot from him. He is a perfectionist in how he does things. I think my accent and my enunciation were throwing him off. He was trying to tell me, and I was really receptive. I wasn’t bucking or nothing. But I did say, “Lemme just clear this up, you know I’m from Atlanta, right? I’m not gonna sound like the bro you have been working with”.
Or maybe Eminem had nothing to do with it. And later, when 2 Chainz had more experience and confidence, he even recorded a track with Em – “Chloraseptic (Remix)”. It was produced by Mr. Porter, though.
