Xzibit has a new milestone to celebrate, and it comes with help from Eminem and Nate Dogg. Their song “My Name” has now passed 100 million streams on Spotify, giving fans a reason to revisit one of the most underrated collaborations of the early 2000s.
A Classic Born in the Heat
The track arrived during a tense moment in hip hop. At that time, the Dre vs. Jermaine Dupri situation was heating up, and the Eminem vs. Canibus feud was also gaining steam. Xzibit wasn’t part of either battle, but he understood the stakes. So he stepped in with loyalty. He wanted Dre and Eminem to know he stood with them.
Logically, he decided that the best way to show that loyalty is to make a record that would turn heads.
Eminem produced “My Name”, added a verse, and brought in Nate Dogg to bless the hook. Together, they created a track meant to boost interest in “Man vs Machine”, and it worked.
Xzibit’s Biggest Album Moment
“Man vs Machine”, released on October 1, 2002, became Xzibit’s highest-charting project ever.
It peaked at No.3 on the US Billboard 200, giving him his strongest commercial moment. Surprisingly, it carried a more electronic sound than Xzibit’s previous album, “Restless”, which leaned into the classic West Coast style. This shift gave “Man vs Machine” its unique identity and helped the record reach a wider audience.
The album included two official singles: “Symphony in X Major” featuring Dr. Dre and “Multiply” featuring Nate Dogg.
Yet the song fans remember most never even became a single. “My Name” became Xzibit’s most famous solo track thanks to sharp verses, a catchy hook, and the star power of Eminem and Nate Dogg. It is also his second most streamed track as a lead artist on Spotify, second only to “X” from “Restless”. For Eminem. it is 112th song to cross this mark.
What’s in the Name?
Interestingly, the success of “My Name” also marks a fun pattern. It becomes Eminem’s second song about his name to cross a major streaming milestone.
Meanwhile, the first, the iconic “My Name Is”, sits in another universe entirely with 728 million streams and counting. That track was the opening song and lead single from “The Slim Shady LP” in 1999. Famously, it helped launch Eminem into mainstream superstardom.
Now, over 20 years later, a different “My Name” continues the tradition by pulling in nine-digit streaming numbers.
