Earlier this year, Westside Boogie said he planned to take his new album to Detroit and play it for Eminem. Now, he appears to have arrived.
Quiet work that takes time
It’s been four years since his most recent album, More Black Superheroes, was released. Over those years, Boogie kept a low profile and did not stop working on new material. A couple of years ago, at the height of the Kendrick-Drake beef, the Compton rapper said that he already had plenty of material but was still working on the album concept.
“Trying to get out of my head and drop a third album”, Boogie declared. “With artists like myself, who spend a lot of time working on lyrics and making sure to put out the best product, you get caught in that overthinking, so this year is the year I’m trying to actually drop. The message I want to deliver with this project is still in the early stages. I got a lot of records done, so it’s about filtering out my ideas and making sure I’ve got tunnel vision of what I want to do with the project and what message I want to deliver”.
The same summer, he appeared on the “Fuel (Shady Edition)” remix with Eminem and Grip, one of the most talked-about songs from The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce): Expanded Mourner’s Edition. Since then – silence.
Final touches
Until recently. With the concept now in place, Westside Boogie announced that the work is mostly done. As of May 2026, Boogie said he only needed to finalise a few guest features before flying to Detroit to play the result for Eminem.
And here he is, in Detroit. Instagram stories show him being picked up at the airport, tired but sounding excited.
Hopefully, Boogie will let his fans know how the meeting went. And hopefully, Eminem gives him that beat Boogie was talking about in his recent interview. The soulful Compton lyricist has a unique voice that many fans are looking forward to hearing again.
