On the red carpet at the 2024 Emmy Awards, television host and former Total Request Live (TRL) VJ Carson Daly admitted that if he could revive the iconic music show, there’s only one person he’d want by his side: Eminem.
In a short interview with a Billboard journalist, Daly shared that he and Eminem have a deep history that goes all the way back to the early days of TRL. He was reminded about it just recently.
Seeing Eminem performing at the 2024 VMAs had Carson Daly feeling nostalgic. Marshall’s iconic “army of Slim Shadys” reminded Daly of the golden days of MTV, when the rapper’s career took off, and TRL became the go-to show for music lovers:
I hadn’t been to the VMAs in years; I don’t think he’d been on in a while. Seeing [Eminem] with all the Slim Shadys brought me back. We have a great history. Being such a fan of his since the beginning of his career if I was to go back and do the show, it wouldn’t be right without having him there.
So, a short answer to the question “Who would be your first guest if you had to host TRL again today?” was:
Marshall. Because Em was there from the beginning.
As a longtime fan of Eminem’s work, Daly couldn’t think of anyone better to co-host the reboot of TRL. With their shared history and mutual respect, the pairing would be a dream for both fans of the show and Eminem.
Imagine this dynamic duo taking over MTV once again!
