Eminem’s emotionally charged single “The Way I Am” has now passed 500 million streams on Spotify, marking another major milestone for one of his most powerful tracks.

Marshall wrote, produced, and performed on the song, released on October 3, 2000, as the second single from “The Marshall Mathers LP”. It stands out in his catalogue as one of the rare tracks where he holds sole songwriting credit – a raw, self-produced anthem that captures the frustrations of fame.

In a past interview with Sway Calloway, Em shared the story of how the song came together mid-flight:

“I remember being on a plane… I got this flow in my head, and then all of a sudden the piano started coming to me. I kind of wrote the song on the plane and then had to make the beat afterwards. I was still learning how to produce at that time, so I had to ask Dre how to bring it to life”.

The milestone comes fittingly on the single’s anniversary, giving fans yet another reason to revisit the unapologetic Slim Shady classic.
