Eminem’s iconic album “The Eminem Show” has now surpassed 9 billion Spotify streams. It remains his most popular project – both in lifetime and daily plays. The album’s latest data shows 3.7 million streams gained in a single day.
Overall, “The Eminem Show” is the 44th most-streamed album of all time on Spotify and the 6th most-played hip hop album on the platform in daily streams. These numbers prove that, even after 23 years, Eminem’s storytelling maintains its hold over listeners worldwide.
The Album That Defined 2002
When “The Eminem Show” dropped in May 2002, it was the most anticipated album of the year. The project marked a turning point for Eminem, showing more of Marshall Mathers the person and less of his wild alter ego, Slim Shady.
The album debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 and stayed there for six non-consecutive weeks. In its first full week, it sold over 1.3 million copies in the US. It also topped the UK Albums Chart for five weeks and reached No. 1 in 16 other countries.
Moreover, “The Eminem Show” produced several of Eminem’s biggest hits: “Without Me,” “Cleanin’ Out My Closet”, “Superman”, and “Sing for the Moment”. It also includes fan favourite “‘Till I Collapse”, the most-streamed non-single in Spotify history.
Record-Breaking Success
At the time, “The Eminem Show” was both the best-selling album in the US and the top-selling album worldwide in 2002. It has since been certified 12× Platinum by the RIAA, with 27 million copies sold globally. That makes it the best-selling hip hop album ever and the second best-selling album of the 21st century.
The album also won Best Rap Album at the 2003 Grammys, while “Without Me” earned Best Music Video. Critics praised its honesty, humour, and experimental production. Many outlets named it among the best albums of the 2000s.
Even now, “The Eminem Show” continues to thrive. It recently climbed from No.25 to No.16 on the UK Hip Hop & R&B Albums Chart, marking its 676th week on the list. That kind of staying power is rare. Yet for Eminem, it is normal.
