Grammy-winning autotune pioneer T-Pain runs an underrated podcast titled “Nappy Boy Radio”. It has a regular The Song of the Week section and this week it was Marshall’s number from the year 2000.

Trinidad James was T-Pain’s guest this time. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, the rapper went from being signed to Def Jam to running his own label. At one point on the show, T-Pain asked his usual question for this segment: if you were at gunpoint, tied and blindfolded, and your life depended on doing a song from front to back with no fuck ups, what song would be your choice? Trinidad James just rushed into rapping head first. And while the crowd in the studio quickly recognised Eminem, it took some time and some internet searching to establish that it was “Marshall Mathers” from MMLP.

And that’s how “Marshall Mathers” has become the Song of the Week on the show. By the way, T-Pain had to pull up the lyrics on the screen for James and join him in performing the song. Trinidad James might have failed the test, but the fact that his strongest bet was on Marshall’s song released over 20 years ago alone shows the impact Eminem has on the culture internationally.
