A documentary exploring Eminem’s fanbase will premiere at the first-ever SXSW London, bringing the spotlight to one of music’s most enduring artist-fan dynamics.

Directed by Steven Leckart and produced by Eminem himself, the film is named after his iconic 2000 hit “Stan” and explores the intense, sometimes complex relationship between Marshall and the fan culture he inspired.

Set to premiere on June 2 at SXSW London, “Stans” is already listed as a headliner on the event’s website. The week-long festival, which runs through June 7, will take place across multiple venues in East London, including the Barbican, Rich Mix, and Curzon Hoxton. Following its festival debut, the documentary will be available to stream on Paramount+ in the UK and North America later this year.

The idea behind “Stans” is to flip the script and explore fan culture from the fans’ own perspectives, according to Shady Films’ Paul Rosenberg and Stuart Parr, as Variety reported:

“Stans” will be the opportunity for us to turn the camera around and ask the audience about being fans — and in some cases, fanatics. This is a study of the relationship between fanbase and artist through the lens of one of Eminem’s most fascinating songs and one of the world’s most important entertainers.

The documentary promises to be “revealing, edgy, and disarmingly personal”, offering insight not only into Eminem’s career but also into what it means to be a fan in the modern world. The project includes stories from collaborators and supporters, along with real-life accounts from those who have followed Eminem’s journey for years.

And the fans are very much a part of it. Eminem himself reached out via social media, inviting followers to share their stories — a rare opportunity for fans to be featured in a project created by the artist who shaped their experience.

What has come out of it? We’ll see later.
