The 2006 club classic has become a streaming powerhouse, marking Akon’s first video past the 1.5 billion mark and Eminem’s fifth.

The video hit the 1 billion mark back in May 2024, and in just over a year, it has pulled in another 500 million views, averaging more than 700,000 plays every single day.

For Akon, this marks a major first. “Smack That” is now his only video to reach 1.5 billion views. For Eminem, however, it’s familiar territory — this is his fifth video to reach that level, joining “Love The Way You Lie” (3 billion), “Without Me” (2.3B), “Not Afraid” (2B), and “Rap God” (1.5B).

Released in 2006 as the lead single from Akon’s album “Konvicted”, “Smack That” became a global smash. The track peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped charts worldwide, blending Akon’s smooth hooks with Eminem’s sharp bars. The video, with its cinematic prison-break setup and high-energy club visuals, was instantly memorable and clearly still has replay value almost 20 years later.

You might disagree, but part of the song’s staying power comes from its perfect storm of mid-2000s nostalgia: Akon at his peak, Eminem stepping back into features after “Encore”, and a music video that felt like a mini action film. It was catchy then, and it hasn’t lost any of its punch today.
