The wait is almost over. After a few setbacks Slaughterhouse will finally release their Shady Records debut, Welcome to: Our Houseon August 28 and the boys admit that they’ve learned a ton from Eminem in the process. Royce Da 5’9’’, Crooked I, Joe Budden and Joell Ortiz — are feeling more confident than ever, thanks to some assistance from their boss Eminem.
Eminem was very hands-on in the album-creation process, and the four extremely talented lyricists admit that his input helped them improve their already fine-tuned skills. In contrast to their 2009 self-titled album, which was crafted in just a week, this project required patience and diligence.
«I think all of us have been around long enough and are humble enough to know the appropriate time to be a sponge, and this entire process, all of us have done nothing but that, as well as sponging off each other,» Joe Budden told MTV News on the video set of «Throw it Away.» «So for me, it’s been a learning process throughout the entire time, and I can say the same thing for these brothers because I hear it in their music as well. We’re just blessed.»
Crooked I agreed with Budden, jumping in to add that he’s thoroughly impressed with his team after working with them to complete the album. «I just want to say I feel like these guys right here are some of the best rappers I’ve ever heard rapping, ever. I’m a student of hip-hop — since Rakim, LL Cool J, KRS-One, I’ve been a student, and to hear these guys rap, to me, these are some of the best rappers I’ve ever heard in my life.»
Whatever mutual respect the Slaughterhouse guys have for each other, it still pales in comparison to Eminem’s stock in them.
«I feel like hip-hop needs this,» Shady said last week when he previewed Welcome to: Our House at his Shade 45 Sirius XM station.
Slaughterhouse is expected to debut the video for their single, «Throw It Away,» featuring Swizz Beatz, in the coming weeks. Both Swizzy and Em joined them on the video set in Jamaica, Queens, last week.
