Canadian Punjabi sensation Shubh gave his first-ever interview. When talking about what shaped him, one name stood out: Eminem.
“I started writing when I was really young”, he told Billboard Canada. “I’ve always carried notebooks — almost like diaries — and that writing became the foundation of everything”.
That quiet, obsessive practice mirrors the writing habits of Eminem, one of Shubh’s biggest influences. This practice does not signify fandom but shows approach. The pages, the pens, the discipline. You can see that same focus in Shubh’s music.
He names Eminem at the top of his rap influences, alongside fellow legends. Billboard did not quote him directly on that pick, just put a mention in the article, but it is expressive:
“Shubh’s influences span decades and continents: Eminem, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., 50 Cent, Dr. Dre. He speaks about them with deep respect, connecting their influence to his own path”.
Even as his breakout hit “One Love” leans into reggae influences (a tribute to Bob Marley), Shubh’s roots in hip hop are just as strong. With over 3 billion streams and a debut arena tour coming up, he is now building a career from that same foundation.
No label. No marketing spend. Just the work and a blueprint shaped by the best.
