Big Sean had to make a tough call when asked to choose between two songs by the artists who helped shape his career.
He recently joined UPROXX’s Sound Check for a round of musical “Would You Rather”, and let us say, this one hit close to home.
Presented with a choice between Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” and Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”, the Detroit native paused before answering, clearly moved by what both artists have meant to him. “It’s crazy the impact they both have had on me”, Sean said, adding, “how both of them have gone out of their way for me”.
Eminem, in particular, has collaborated with Sean on a string of Detroit-rooted tracks, including “Detroit vs. Everybody”, “No Favors”, and the epic “Detroit Cypher” on Detroit 2. That bond tipped the scales in Em’s favour. Sean ultimately picked “Lose Yourself”, citing its profound impact on his life and career. The suggestion to put relationship aside and choose by music only Sean politely declined:
“I take the music personally. I really want to choose both, but if I had to choose right now, Imma go Em”.
You can catch the full episode over on UPROXX’s YouTube, where Sean shares more stories about his musical influences and tries not to buckle under the pressure.
.@BigSean stopped by for Sound Check and it's no surprise we pitted Detroit's most iconic rapper Eminem against another hip-hop titan in Lil Wayne. Two of Sean's biggest collaborators, we had him pick between two classics in "Lose Yourself" and "A Milli" and made him sweat 😅 pic.twitter.com/P6yNwVECos
