LL Cool J has left a mark on generations of rappers and hip hop in general. Royce took a minute to give LL his flowers.
In a short Instagram video, Royce speaks about the place the superstar rapper takes in history and Royce’s heart:
I wanted to be LL Cool J. People used to tell me that I look like LL Cool J, and I took that shit as a compliment. LL Cool J showed that you could be an MC and still get the girls. LL Cool J was the first person to ever refer to himself as GOAT, as far as MCs are concerned. Which means that he coined the phrase if my memory serves me correct. Hit sitcom, hit movies, hosted Emmys. No.1 bestselling book. Always still uses his platform to speak to issues that only affect the Black community, which a lot of other artists are afraid to do. Been in the game since he was 16 years old. He showed that you can use your platform and do many, many things. And he just got inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame. Which, in my opinion, makes him the most important MC that has ever breathed air on this earth. The most important. Fuck “who is the best”. The most important MC who has ever breathed air on this earth is LL Cool J., And you could debate your mother.
It really is a heartwarming message that Royce captioned with a quote from LL Cool J’s 1987 hit “I’m Bad”:
“Awwwwwwwwwwwwww…. No rapper can rap, quite like I can!”
