Royce learned about his Grammy nomination and COVID diagnosis on the same day.
He discussed the matter on his podcast with Lupe Fiasco, which is now available on YouTube.
Royce thinks that two fights in one day were the reason he caught the virus despite the fact that he wore the mask all the time.
I was sick, man. I was sick and I never get sick. I was a man down for about four days. You know what I had and I don’t know what you think is so fucking funny ‘cause it’s not. I wasn’t feeling well. I had headaches. I had chills. It wasn’t really that bad, it was like flu. You know what it was? I went to New York to shoot the video with Toby and Tariq and I flew out on the first flight in the morning, and when I got there I went straight to the set. I shot my shot and I wanted to get back ‘cause I don’t normally… I travelled to three places! I did this for Tobi and then I went to Miami, and then I went to Ohio to do Dave Chappelle’s shit. So I flew in, shot my shot and went straight back to the airport. I didn’t flight private either. Straight back to the airport and I got on another plane. Two commercial flights in one day fucked me over.
I feel better now. It took me about a week. I feel great. About two of those days were really bad. I didn’t really wanna talk, people was calling my phone… I actually found out I was positive the day I found out I got nominated for the Grammy. I was doing a teleconference with my doctor, telling him my symptoms, and then I got out of the teleconference and took a couple of calls to talk to Tip, listen to people tell me “Congratulations”… The lady was here ‘cause she came to give me a test. So I took two tests and then I was positive. It took me until yesterday to get a negative.
Royce self-isolated in his studio, which was not that different from what he usually does, spending his time working on music. But for a man who does not usually go down with an illness that was a tough experience even if his particular case was mild.
