Eminem and Rihanna at The Monster Tour (Rose Bowl 7 august 2014) 01

Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie (Part II)” featuring Eminem has now sold over 1.5 million units in the United States.

The sequel followed the massive success of the original “Love The Way You Lie” from Eminem’s “Recovery”. This time, Rihanna took centre stage, giving voice to the story’s female perspective. At first, she hesitated to revisit the track. “I just felt like you couldn’t beat the original”, she told MTV. However, once she heard Skylar Grey’s haunting demo, she changed her mind.

With new drums, layered harmonies, and Eminem’s sharp verses, “Love The Way You Lie (Part II)” became a perfect companion to one of 2010’s biggest songs.

Live Premiere

Rihanna and Eminem performed “Love The Way You Lie (Part II)” live for the first time at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards on February 13, 2011. It was part of a medley with “I Need a Doctor” featuring Dr. Dre, Skylar Grey, and Adam Levine.

The show began with Rihanna singing on a small stage in the middle of the audience. Adam Levine played the piano beside her. Then, Eminem appeared on the main stage to deliver his verse. As the crowd cheered, Rihanna walked over to join him. Together, they turned the performance into one of the most powerful moments of the night.

The Song Still Hits

Although it did not reach the same legendary status as its predecessor, the track remains a beloved favourite among fans. Earlier this year, it surpassed 300 million streams on Spotify, becoming Rihanna’s 7th most-played non-single and her 48th most-streamed song overall. For Eminem, it marked his 41st track across all credits to hit that milestone.

Certified and Climbing

The RIAA certified the song Gold in 2021, but it has since tripled those numbers. With 1.5 million units sold, it is now well above Platinum status. The only thing it is missing is an official certificate and a plaque.

Regardless of time, the emotional pull of “Love The Way You Lie (Part II)” shows how powerful the Eminem–Rihanna partnership remains.
